I started this little project to practice foliage creation after watching Peyton Varney's Gnomon tutorial. I chose to recreate foliages from the Yakushima forest I visited a few years ago during a road trip in Japan. Mononoke Hime from Ghibli was of course an heavy reference for this work.
I wasn't looking for a photo realistic look, but something a bit stylized and bright, close to some anime look.
Every assets have been sculpted in Zbrush, and hand placed in Maya. I painted a base color for the texture in zbrush, then use Substance Designer to add variation and micro details.
In Unreal I created some custom materials that allow me a full control on the final look.
I had a lot of fun doing this project, and I would love to make a full environment with this base in the future ^^
